The following applications have been received from people in Hampshire undertaking expeditions, overseas projects, personal development, etc. Details are as follows:
1. Hayley Nicholls, Basingstoke
Hayley is a third year student from Basingstoke wishing to undertake a trip to Bosnia organised by Magdalen College Aid to the Balkans. Once there she will teach English and other associated activities. Hayley has to raise £500 to cover her costs, of which she has £150.
Recommendation: £100
2. Lisa Gander, Pennington
Lisa (14) is taking part in "Eurolife 2001" from July to August this year which will bring together guides from all over Europe to Switzerland to learn new skills to share with others in her unit. She needs to raise £500 towards her costs and has asked the County Council for a contribution of £100.

3. Harry Gayner, Beaulieu
Harry (18) is undertaking a three month teaching programme in Nepal later this year. He will teach Sport, Art and English in a village primary or secondary school in the Gurkha/Waling districts of Nepal. The total cost of the trip is £3,050.

4. Katie Hyson, Andover
In October this year, Katie (17) is going to the central regions of Nepal to teach English and other extra mural activities to junior school Nepalese children for a period of five months. She will be leaving later in the year and returning in March 2002.

5. Jennifer Cox, Newtown, Fareham
Jennifer (21) is going to Mongolia, with Raleigh International, to undertake several community and environmental projects in July this year. The total cost of her project is £3,200, of which she has raised £2,500.

6. Claire Lyne, Denmead
Claire (22) is taking part in a Guiding Overseas linked with Development (GOLD) project in Poland for two weeks. Her total costs will amount to £1,000. In 1999, Claire received £150 from the Policy and Resources Grants Panel towards an education project in the Ukraine.

7. Sophie Pearson, Emsworth
Sophie (19) is undertaking two GAP year projects: one to Mexico where she will work on a volcano monitoring site and do conservation work for which she has raised £2,200; the other to go to Svalbard in the Arctic with BSES Expeditions and it is for this expedition that she is seeking a grant. Each explorer must raise £2,100 as their contribution.

8. Kate Harvey, Winchester
Kate (20) is going to Hoga Island in Indonesia as part of Operation Wallacea. This is a conservation project based in South East Sulawesi, Indonesia and is dedicated to the conservation of rainforests and coral reefs and the preservation of cultural heritage in this remote area. Kate has to raise £1,700 towards the cost of her trip.

9. Emily Rowe, Crampmoor
Emily, a student at Peter Symonds' College in Winchester, is undertaking a three month expedition to Central America as part of her GAP year. The expedition is split into three sections; community, adventure and environmental. In April 2000, Emily received a £150 grant from this Sub-Committee to take part in the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race 2000.

10. Laura Nichols, Chandlers Ford
Laura is a year 10 pupil at Toynbee Secondary School and belongs to the 1st Chandlers Ford Ramally Guides. She has been selected at County level to go to Eurolife 01, which is an international Guide Camp held in Interlaken, Switzerland. The trip will cost £460.

11. Beccy Broomfield, Totton
Beccy is 17 and has been selected to represent England at Eurolife 2001 which is taking place in Interlaken, Switzerland in July this year. She needs to raise £600 towards her costs.

12. Lacey Plumbley, Bedhampton
Lacey, 16, is attending an Outward Bound course in Aberdovey between 16 July and 3 August. Once there, she will develop new skills and personal qualities such as communication, leadership and self-confidence. Councillor Mrs V. Steel supports this application.
Total cost: £600

13. Jonathan Scott, Winchester
Jonathan, 16, attends The Westgate School in Winchester and has won a place in the National Youth Music Theatre for a production called `The Dreaming'. He needs to raise £500 towards the course fee and £100 for travel costs. Councillor D.G. Allen supports this application.

14. Charlotte Mussellwhite, Soberton
Charlotte is an undergraduate from the University of Southampton and is taking part in the Operation Wallacea project on conservation in Sulawesi, Indonesia. She needs to raise £3,000.

15. Rachel Cruse, Chandler's Ford
Rachel (14) has been selected to represent Hampshire West Guides on an International trip at Eurolife 2001, taking place in Interlaken, Switzerland in July this year. She needs to raise £460 towards her costs and a further £100 for equipment.
