1. The report at Item 4(B) concentrates on the proportional allocation of elected members to Sub-Committees and Panels. There is one typographical error: Youth Service Sub-Committee should read Conservative 6, Liberal Democrats 2, Labour 1, as agreed by the County Council at its meeting on 18 June 2001.

2. Regulations require the appointment of Diocesan and parent governor representatives to Sub-Committees and Panels dealing with Education. At present, in respect of those Sub-Committees retained, this applies to the Schools Monitoring Sub-Committee and the Youth Service Sub-Committee. There is also a parent governor representative serving on the School Transport Appeals Panel. All the above members have a vote. There are also non-voting co-opted teacher representatives serving on the Schools Monitoring Sub-Committee.

3. The Committee may therefore wish to continue the appointment of Diocesan, parent governor and co-opted teacher representatives on the relevant Sub-Committees and Panels for the interim period until the County Council's new constitution takes effect. The current representatives are:

Schools Monitoring Sub-Committee

Dioceses - Mr P. Gilliat
Parent Governor - Mrs L. Hodges
Co-opted teachers - Mr D. Belfield and Ms R. Clarke

Youth Service Sub-Committee

Dioceses - Rev. Karina Green

School Transport Appeals Panel

Parent Governor - Mrs V. Assinder

RECOMMENDATION

That Diocesan, parent governor and teacher representatives be appointed to serve on the Sub-Committees and Panels referred to in paragraph 3 above, until the County Council's new constitution takes effect.
