The following applications have been received from people in Hampshire undertaking expeditions, overseas projects, personal development, etc. Details are as follows:
1. Athene Church, London
Athene, (17) attends Bedales School in Petersfield and has been selected to take part in "Africa Venture to Botswana" for four months between January and May 2002. Once there, she will be teaching children in a rural environment. Athene has to raise £3,000 towards her costs.
Note: The County Council grants are usually allocated for the benefit of Hampshire people, which will not be the case in this instance.

2. Sarah Parrott, South Wonston
Sarah is a member of Hampshire West Guides. She has been invited to an international camp "Eurolife" in Interlaken, Switzerland in July this year. The event will bring together 3,000 guides from all over Europe to learn new skills to share with others in her unit. She needs to raise £500 towards her costs including travelling, food, kit and other essentials.

3. Pebbles Duff, Cowplain
Pebbles Duff has been a member of her local gym club for nine years and has now been chosen to attend Dynamo Gymnastics Club, where she will be trained by National Level coaches. Pebbles has been Hampshire and Southern Region Champion in her age group for the last five years. She requires financial assistance to cover her uniform and training/travelling costs which amount to £2,352.
The County Schools Sports Officer is very happy to support this request for financial assistance. His comments are as follows:-
_Pebbles is currently ranked 15th nationally in her age group and is also a
member of the British Schools Squad. She is a talented young person. The
cost to young people in representing their country is generally, in most
sports, and gymnastics in particular, enormous and the national governing
bodies of sport should be encouraged to do more."
Pebbles has been awarded a bursary grant of £110 per annum from the Education Department.

4. Hayley Faithfull, Sandleheath
Hayley (18) has been chosen to participate in a guiding project in Vancouver/Banff in Canada later this year learning about Canadian culture. The trip will cost £1,000 and she has asked for a £100 grant.

5. Kate Palmer, Rowlands Castle
In October this year, Kate (18) is undertaking a project in Uganda for six months which involves tackling a variety of social issues. The project will be offering young people the opportunity of working in a different culture and learning from their experience, as well as benefiting the local community.
Kate has to raise £3,300 towards her costs, i.e. travel, insurance, food, accommodation, etc.

6. Laura and Melanie Dyer, Chandlers Ford
Laura and Melanie (both 16) have been selected to represent South West England Guide Association at "Eurolife" in Interlaken, Switzerland. The event will bring together 3,000 guides from all over Europe to learn new skills to share with others in their unit. They need to raise £500 each towards their costs including travelling, food, kit and other essentials.
Recommendation: £150 each
7. Katie Lindsay, Fair Oak
Katie Lindsay (22) has been selected for a Raleigh International expedition in southern Chile from October to December 2001. She will help the community there by actively including them in projects such as biodiversity, research and building community facilities such as homes and fire stations. Katie needs to raise £3,200 plus £800 for equipment costs.

8. Kerry Barker, Blackfield
Kerry is completing her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award this year and in order to do so is undertaking a 90 km trek followed by 60 kms of canoeing in Eastern Finland. The cost of the expedition is £1,000. She will need also to raise money for clothing and equipment.

9. Cara Playford, West End
Cara is 15 years of age and a member of the West End Guides. She has been invited to an international camp "Eurolife" in Interlaken, Switzerland in July this year. She needs to raise £600 towards her costs including travelling, food, kit and other essentials.

10. Dominic Reynolds, Ropley
Dominic (18) has been selected to take part in a Pilot Ambassador Project Abroad (P.A.P.A.) which is to design and build a playground for the many children in the Bahia State of Brazil. Each participant needs to raise £600 towards his/her costs. Dominic has already raised £300 and has requested a grant of £100.
