The route for the future

Consultation

How the County Council normally involves the general public

For a typical scheme Hampshire County Council would normally consult the emergency services, access groups and cycle groups by letter. Depending on the size of project the general public are usually invited to an exhibition showing the proposals, and are invited to comment on them.

To publicise the exhibition residents, businesses and schools directly affected (located adjacent to or who are users of the proposed works) are invited by letter and posters advising the dates of the exhibitions. The comments raised are used to finalise or in some cases stop the proposed works.

Those directly affected would be then notified by letter of the planned date for works to commence, and road work signs would be put up with a contact phone number for use in the event of any problems.

Since January 2006 there is an additional requirement for all consultations to be viewed online. For the latest please follow Hampshire e-Consultation pages

How the County Council consulted and updated for the ZIP corridor

For the ZIP route public involvement for the development of the project has been ongoing. From the beginning it was decided to design, consult and build the project in five sections.

For each section there has been a main works initial consultation event, followed by a feedback consultation event a year or so later to show the general public the final proposals due to be built. For each section bus stop locations have been consulted separately and residents have been notified of proposed locations of new street lighting.

Between the initial consultation and the feedback event, the development of each section had been achieved through the use of consultative panels. When construction starts the panels still meet to give feedback on any problems which need to be addressed.

Feedback to the public in addition to the follow up consultation is through distinctively coloured quarterly newsletters, weekly progress letters from Dyer and Butler for sections under construction, these web pages, the iTravel kiosk, advertisements in local press, one-stop-shops (caravan displays), and presentations to social groups and schools as applicable.

Consultative panels

Currently there are two panels which meet every 2-3 months. Should you feel there are any issues being overlooked or if you have any concerns, please contact either Chris Murray or Geoff Topps on 01962 845174
