The route for the future

Tick and Cross

Helping make bus travel more accessible

Hampshire County Council is committed to improving bus travel and putting accessibility at the top of its design agenda. Currently being trialled along the ZIP route are new tactile signs that will help the elderly and anyone who is visually impaired to board the ZIP route 41 buses on the A3 Bus Corridor.

The innovative raised profile signs will be fixed at hip height, close to the shelter mid-rail at the entrance and exit of every ZIP shelter along the route, between Purbrook and Clanfield.

The signs consist of a red cross and a green tick. The green tick tells passengers which is the correct end of the shelter to board the bus, while the cross tells people that the bus will not admit passengers from this end of the shelter.

The ZIP bus shelters have been developed in conjunction with bus user and access groups, including representatives from Portsmouth Association for the Blind, Havant Access Group and Guide Dog users.

We would be interested in your feedback on the tick and cross – please email us at zipbuspriority@hants.gov.uk.
