Hulbert Junior School, Waterlooville
Inspiration Garden
The brief for the Inspiration Garden was developed with the school to provide
a special teaching environment that would be a 'treat' for
the pupils to use.
The design was developed by HED, one of Hampshire Design Services partner landscape architectural practices, working with the school council comprised of pupils.
A coastal theme emerged and this led on to pupils visiting the Hampshire coast to collect stones and shells which informed the design. The poet Paula Brown worked with the school to develop poetry and riddles based upon the north, south, east and west winds which explored the various senses. This text combined with the coastal imagery was then engraved into timber seating created by the artist Peter Codling and was used within a wind rose formed in patterned and coloured concrete which forms the central focal point for the design.
