Minstead Study Centre, New Forest
Minstead Study Centre provides residential courses for primary age school children with the aim of promoting a respect of nature, the earth, environmental issues and a commitment to sustainable living. This ambition has been reflected in the design of the new Eco-Dormitory building.
The building is an unique innovative design built on a woodland site to capture the feel of a forest dwelling. It is constructed from locally sourced timber and materials of a sustainable nature which have been selected to demonstrate various environmental issues. It is a benchmark for good sustainable design.
The new ‘green oak’ timber framed building provides sleeping
accommodation for children and teaching staff, offering a secure, stimulating
and enjoyable learning/residential experience. By embracing good sustainable
design and environmental awareness Hampshire County Council has demonstrated
the Authority’s commitment to its sustainability agenda.
