Calshot a hit at PSP Southampton Boatshow

Calshot launched a two-pronged welcome to visitors at this year's Boatshow. Not only did our stand by the footbridge in Area B, greet enthusiastic callers, hungrily devouring all things Calshot, but we also ran the H2O Zone, an interactive purpose-built watersports pool, offering Come & try it kayaking and dinghy sailing. Demos of windsurfing and stand-up paddle boarding also took place.

Nearly one thousand eager participants tried their hand at the different activities, over the course of the ten days, including Shelley Jory (British Powerboat Champion),Tim Brabants(Beijing Olympic Gold in 1000m sprint kayak, Bronze in 500m), David Florence (Beijing Silver in C1 slalom kayak),
TV personality Fred Dineage from Meridian TV, 10 entrants for the Miss PSP Southampton Boatshow 2008 competition and lots of Southampton School Children.

The H2O Zone, organised with support from Canoe England, was a great success, reinforcing the message that exercise can be fun as well as healthy.

Calshot from a bird's perspective

Some great new aerial shots of the South coast's premier ourdoor centre have recently come into our possession, courtesy of Captain John WF Russell of Euro Seaplane Services Ltd.

The shots, the result of several passes made over the Spit, clearly show the Centre in its full splendour, on one of the gloriously sunny days which we experience down here with monotonous regularity.

As one of the region's most striking features, Calshot Spit is a mecca for windsurfers, sailors, boat-watchers and bon viveurs. But don't take the pictures' word for it...come down here and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Why not Windsurf Supervised?

It's an interesting question, probably not one considered by too many people at this time of the year. True, it does take time to cast off winter habits and leap headlong into summer pursuits. But did you know that the water temperature around Calshot Spit is currently 14.5 degrees C? That's just a few degrees lower than you would expect in the height of summer. So if it's the water temperature that's putting you off, procrastinate no longer.

Calshot's Supervised Windsurfing sessions have been running for a number of years now. Ever-popular, they offer anyone of Level One standard or above, the opporunity to use Calshot's kit and enjoy the help and security of a Level One instructor with safety boat. Kit includes: wetsuit, bouyancy aid, boards, rigs and harnesses. There is a good variety of boards to try and a wide range of sail sizes to pick from.

Sessions run at weekends and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during the summer. The session dates are subject to tidal conditions. Click Supervised Windsurfing for more details
