Windsurfing is one of the most exhilarating watersports. It is an exciting, challenging sport free from many of the constraints associated with other water activities. Thanks to its unique position, Calshot offers the ideal venue with both sheltered water for the novice and open water for the more skilled. We are an RYA Training Centre and offer courses at all levels from novice to instructor. We have an excellent selection of modern wide style boards, rigs and simulators to enable you to get the best from your windsurfing.

A thorough introduction for the absolute novice or those with very limited experience. After a short landbased session on a simulator, we will give you plenty of practical time afloat with expert coaching, using our fleet of the latest wide style beginners boards, which are very stable and manoeuvrable, allowing you to progress rapidly. Sessions on safety, equipment and sailing theory will ensure you get the most from your course.

Once you have completed a Start Windsurfing course the next move is an intermediate course. Using the FASTFWD coaching formula you will develop your skills and then be able to use the formula throughout your windsurfing career, whatever your level, whatever the manoeuvre. The course will cover non–planing and planing techniques and manoeuvres (conditions permitting).
If you would like to acquire the tools to progress further in windsurfing then this is the course for you!

Adult Supervised Windsurfing

£20 per session or five sessions for £84 or ten sessions for £158 (if block booked)
Times:
Weekday: 1800-2000 Weekends: 0930-1200 or 1400-1630
(please note these times are inclusive of rigging and changing)
For those who have already completed Level One or Two, we offer the opportunity to use our equipment to practise your newly learnt skills under our safety umbrella. Windsurfing takes place when there is sheltered water available. Bookings should be made in advance.
Please note we will only cancel a session if the weather conditions make the risks unmanageable. e.g. Strong winds, fog etc.

A fun afternoon of coaching and fun racing, followed by a meal and prize giving in Spinnakers bar. Aimed at those who have attended Calshot courses and supervised sessions during the year, this should be a great way to end the season.

RYA Start Windsurfing Instructor

£355 Non-residential includes lunches and evening meals

This course covers the skills needed to teach and assess the RYA Start windsurfing course. Candidates should be at the sailing level defined by the RYA, possess a valid First Aid Certificate, and hold a Level Two Powerboat Award.

RYA Intermediate Windsurfing Instructor

This four day course incorporates the ‘non planing’ and ‘planing’ elements within the new Intermediate syllabus. Much of the focus will be on coaching skills and in particular the use of the Fastfwd coaching model. Candidates should hold an Intermediate Planing (or Level Three) or an Advanced (or Level Four) Award. Successful candidates will be awarded Intermediate ‘non planing’ or Intermediate ‘planing’ Instructor certificate depending on personal sailing standard. A valid First aid certificate is also required.

Windsurfing for young people

We offer windsurfing courses based on the RYA youth windsurfing scheme ‘Log On To Windsurfing’. Operating in two age groups, 8–12 and 12–16, children are introduced to this exciting and challenging sport in a fun and enjoyable way. Instruction takes place in sheltered water with safety boats always in attendance. A maximum ratio of six students to one instructor operates on all courses. Certificates and log books are provided free of charge. This is an excellent course to gain all the basic windsurfing skills, after which many youngster go on to join the Calshot Flyers junior windsurfing club. In the event of bad weather, alternative activities will be provided, such as skiing, climbing etc.

RYA Level One

£125 Non-residential only includes lunches
Times: 0900-1630 each day

For those with little or no experience these courses will introduce the sport in a fun and enjoyable way. Using specialist junior equipment you should soon be whizzing across the waves and experiencing this exciting sport. For those that achieve the required standard a Level one certificate will be awarded.

Calshot Flyers Junior Windsurfing Club for 8-16 year olds

Charges for club membership and session fees will be set early in 2008.
Calshot Flyers is an independent club run by fully qualified volunteers and meets regularly on Mondays, Wednesdays during the summer and Saturdays in the Autumn. It provides youngster from 8-16 the opportunity to progress in a safe, friendly and fun environment. Most members take a two day Level one course before joining the club, this is strongly recommended as it provides an excellent grounding in the sport. If you would like to discuss other joining options please contact the club secretary. Coaching and instruction will be given at all levels, for those that are interested the fun and excitement of racing will be introduced.
