Technical Data
These maps give an indicative picture of the Public Transport Accessibility Levels in Hampshire based on 2001 Public Transport Data. The various coloured contours on each map represent the level of access to public transport from common origin points using a combination of walking distances and service levels.
Therefore, levels of accessibility represented by a certain contour can be experienced in a variety of ways.
For example, a point 400 metres from a bus stop with a service of eight buses an hour will
show the same level of accessibility as a point at a bus stop with four services an hour.
Similarly, the same service level can be achieved with a variety of bus and train frequencies
and distances to stops and stations.
The following parameters are used in the accessibility calculation.
- All recognised bus stops within a 10 minute walk
- All rail stations within 15 minute walk
- Frequency of bus and train services at the individual stops and stations in the given time period
- Average waiting times at the stop or station
- Average walking time based on 80 metres per minute
- A measure of the attractiveness (reliability and preference) of the services
Please note:
- The contours are generated based on 300 square metre grids covering the whole of Hampshire
- The Accessibility calculations assume walking distances 'as the crow flies' and do not take into account physical barriers like rivers, walls, slopes, inpenetrable woodlands etc
