Hampshire County Council is trying to make sure that we break down the barriers that prevent equal access to our services or employment.
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 brought about new rights for disabled people. Employers and Service Providers must not discriminate against a person for a reason connected with their disability. Not only must they not discriminate but they must also make reasonable adjustments to the way they offer their services. Employers must also make reasonable adjustments in the work place to ensure that an employee is able to carry out their work effectively.
The County Council believes that information about services available within Hampshire plays a vital part in their drive to break down barriers. This Website has already received high acclaim from the RNIB for accessibility and we hope that the following pages will improve the access to information for disabled people and on behalf of disabled people even more.
Our Equalities Team is responsible for advising Members of the County Council and the various departments about current issue. Jane Goodwin, as the Corporate Disability Officer is taking the lead on disability matters. Your ideas for these pages are most welcome. Please send your suggestions using the on-line form.
