Education in Hampshire
Performance and assessment of schools - self-evaluation
The Local Authority has a statutory duty to promote high standards in schools and to work with them according to their needs. Its statutory functions include:
- monitoring the performance of all schools
- challenging them to achieve the highest possible standards and quality of education
- intervening where significant improvement is needed
- providing support so that this can be secured.
Schools have a duty to meet the needs of the community that they serve. They are expected to self-evaluate on a continuous basis to ensure that they are meeting these needs and the needs of every child and young person as well as they can. This process is validated through the use of a School Improvement Partner who will work with the school using a range of evidence to support a final judgement of its effectiveness. A report is then made to the school's governing body and the Local Authority.
