How can a travel plan help me?
A travel plan is a way for your employer to offer staff a wider variety of options for how you can travel to work without having to be reliant on a car. Taking time to think about the way we all travel has a wide range of personal benefits which include:
- Potential financial savings (see the car costs calculator on our lift sharing website - Hantscarshare.com)
- Improved personal health and fitness by walking and cycling rather than driving
- The possibility to work more flexibly and recognise home life commitments
- More travel choices
- An improved local environment as a result of less traffic congestion and fumes
- A safer local community and improved road safety
By thinking about each journey you make and making small changes like leaving the car at home once a week and travelling by bus or train it is possible to contribute towards making local communities safer and more pleasant to be in. For some people, working from home occasionally and eliminating the need to travel completely is an option. Contact the travel plan co-ordinator to get hold of a free copy of the 'Cutting your car use' book.

What to do next
Does your employer have a travel plan? If they do, find out how they can help you in finding the best way to get to work. If your employer does not have a travel plan, but you think that your place of work could benefit from having one, let them know about this site. Perhaps you could become a champion ....
