Equality and Diversity in Hampshire

Hampshire County Council is committed to securing genuine equality of opportunity, whether required by law or not, in all aspects of its activities as an employer and service provider.

The County Council recognises that passive policies will not reverse discrimination and disadvantage.

  • So it will actively seek to redress unfair discrimination against disadvantaged people to ensure equality of opportunity.

  • It will work to encourage and assist disadvantaged groups or individuals creating a fair basis from which equality of opportunity can operate.

New approach

We have recently updated and simplified our approach to equality and diversity.  Following consultation with our staff and a wide range of people from different parts of the Hampshire communities this new Equality Scheme and Improvement Plan 2009-2012 sets out our new vision.  The improvement plan tells you about some of the actions that we intend to take to improve equal access to our services and employment.

Please contact equality.diversity@hants.gov.uk if you would like to take part in monitoring this plan.
