Description and Date: Alleged Castle (Site)
Remarks: Barton Castle Barton Copse. Motte and bailey type earthwork close to right of way between Wield Church and Godsfield. Well defined walls of tooled clunch remain, suggesting date coeval with church. O.S.A. No. SU63 NW9. Ref: 1. Field Archaeology as Illustrated in Hampshire, 1915, pp.229, 422.
