Byfleet Manor Farmhouse. Originally C.16, now almost wholly modernised. 2-storey brick structure stuccoed and colourwashed. Old tile roof. Semi-octagonal staircase turret at the back. Now divided into two houses. Earlier manor, (probably church endowment) since 1234 and called after the Byfleet family, who held it from 1389. O.S.A. No. SU65 SE7. Old Basing House, The Street. Basic house dates f rom C.17 with road frontage added in Iate C.18. Northern part of C.16 date. 2-storey. Road front stuccoed with plinth. First floor string course, moulded cornice, and pediment over three central bays. Slate roof to road frontage, remainder tile. Fine plasterwork possibly designed by Inigo Jones in rear drawing room. Large topiary yew peacock in garden, said to have been planted at the time of the Restoration.     T. & C.P. Act
