Basingstoke Canal. Opened 1794. The main traffic was coal to Basingstoke, and agricultural produce. Advent of the railway eventually destroyed its viability. Canal and adjacent woodland are now an area with interesting aquatic flora and invertebrate fauna. Canal now being restored by the County Council.
