Dogmersfield House. Built on the site of a palace of the Bishop of Bath and Wells. Henry VI often stayed there, and it was there Catherine of Aragon met Henry VII and her future husband Prince Arthur.     T. & C.P. Act

Pilcot Green. Associated with a visit by Henry VII to Dogmersfield House when the cottages named The Barracks, Catherine of Aragon, and Lords and Ladies are said to have been occupied by members of the king's entourage.     C.A.

Defences

The 1940 second line of defence against a German invasion was constructed between Sheerness and Bristol. At Double Bridge the canal itself was formed into a barrier for some distance with tree trunks sunk into the towpath. A barricade still survives. Centred on grid reference.     C.A.
