Page 135 - Four Marks

Situated some four miles southwest of Alton on the main Winchester road, Four Marks lies astride the main coaching road from London to Winchester. At the highest point in the parish -Telegraph Lane- the Admiralty erected a semaphore post as one of a chain of signal stations between London and Plymouth.
