Partly under lawn in gardens of Nos. 42/44, Bowes Hill. Traces of Romano-British coarseware also found. O.S.A. No. SU71 SW18.     SU 732 109

Occupation Site
Villa found north of Mays Coppice Farm, before 1817. Apartment 18 ft. x 14 ft. with entire ornamented pavement. Pieces of painted stucco found. Traces of adjoining bath houses (possibly), and larger buildings to east. Site strewn with charcoal and pottery. Foundations now destroyed. A variety of coins have been found including a pot of Roman copper coins, in 1850. Ash, charcoal and kiln wasters indicate site of pottery kilns. A tumulus close by contained charcoal and a pottery sherd marked with crescents. O.S.A. No. SU71 SW21. Ref: 1. V.C.H., (Haverfield), p.310. Ref: 2. Post Norman
Small motte with no recognisable remains of bailey, 250 m. southwest of motte in Motley's Copse. 45 m. in diameter overall. Holt pond encroaches on the earthwork, and the top of the motte is dug into. O.S.A. No. SU71 SW13.     S.A.M. No. 129
