On the southern outskirts of Andover, Abbotts Ann lies near the Pillhill Brook, a tributary of the River Anton. The village is picturesque, its church of Saint Mary the Virgin was a gift of Thomas Pitt, the grandfather of the statesman William Pitt.

It is renowned as being probably the last place where the ancient custom of awarding 'virgin crowns' still survives.
