Situated five miles south-east of Romsey, between Wellow and the Wiltshire border, the parish comprises mixed woodlands at Melchet Park in the north and open common land south of Plaitford village. Plaitford Common is part of the New Forest Site of Special Scientific Interest and is owned by the National Trust.
