Nos. 1 and 1A. One building, three storeys grey headers with red brick dressings and quoins, parapet with stone coping. Symmetrical front with five recessed sash windows with flat gauged red brick arches to each floor. No. 1 has main doorway which is set in architrave surround, with pediment over on console brackets, panelled door. No. 1A has similar doorway to south with projecting moulded cornice.     T&CP Act

No. 3. Early timber framed building recased and altered later. Corner site. Two storeys and attic, stucco faced. Hipped roof with tiles renewed. Two hipped dormers and four flush sash windows facing Penny Street. Ground floor has early C.19 style bow window and house door. The front to Barrack Street has two hipped dormers and two windows, and door with pilaster frame.     T&C P Act

Nos. 31 and 33. Three storeys No. 31 stucco faced with parapet. No. 33 red brick with brick dentil cornice and parapet. Hipped tiled roofs, two dormers. No. 31 has tripartite bay windows to all floors. No. 33 has two recessed sashes with flat stucco arches to all floors. Panelled doors. Door cases both with flanking pilasters but different designs.     T&C P Act

Portland Terrace
Hotel and Terrace
Nos. 1 and 2 The Portland Hotel, and Nos. 3-15. T.E. Owen, 1846-49. Four storeys and basement. Long stucco terrace. The main front of the hotel faces Kent Road, it has three recessed sash windows to each floor, round headed on first and third floors. Iron first floor balcony. Rectangular enclosed pilastered porch. Rusticated ground floor. The terrace is set back and slightly lower, but with centre house and No. 15 projecting and balancing the hotel. Two windows to each floor, squat rectangular on third floor, architrave surrounds ot second floor windows, and round headed full length sashes on first floor. Continuous iron balcony to Nos 2-6 and Nos. 9-13. Tripartite ground floro windows. Panelled doors with rectangular fanlights. Centre two houses and No. 15 have round headed third floor windows, and first floor windows have a separate balcony to each pair, enclosed porches. Area railings throughout terrace.     T&C P Act
