Browser Compatibility
We have made a conscious decision to keep these pages relatively simple in design. This is so that they can be viewed by the widest range of Web browsers as possible, and with fast response times by people accessing the Internet at all speeds from a home dial-up upwards. We do make use of HTML3 tables where they can improve the layout and ease of use of our information, so we recommend you use a browser which can display them, e.g. an up-to-date version of Mosaic or Netscape. We have also used Netscape specific extensions to HTML, but only where they can enhance the presentation of a page above that possible in ordinary HTML.
It is our intention not to use Netscape tags which "lock out" or seriously detract from the presentation of pages for non-Netscape users. Similarly, where we use tables, we intend to construct them so that the information they contain is usable for people with non-table compliant browsers. We are also committed to support text-only browsers (most County Council users with Web access are using one) and will always offer alternative text for images.
