Eversley

Image displaying the parish of Eversley. Eversley lies on the northern edge of Hampshire and is situated within what once was the Royal Forest of Eversley. Eversley contains a wide variety of Historic Landscape Types. The detailed patchwork of small irregular fields and thick hedges amongst heavy woodland and copses typical of areas which have been subject to "assarting" (piecemeal clearance of woodland over lay periods) Other typical features include the former deer park (top right of centre) marked by its sinous wooded boundary forming a large ring, and the scattered pattern of settlement with numerous greens. Encroachment and infill of modern development can also be seen. A number of the woods display the characteristic shape of assarted woods with cleaved strips and patches within them and bites out of their edges.
