Portsmouth - Fareham tram (Light Rapid Transit)
Latest news 29 November 2006: Tram Scheme To Be Formally
Abandoned
Plans for a tram scheme linking Fareham, Gosport and Portsmouth
were refused by Government a year ago (29 November 2005) on grounds
of cost. That scheme will now be formally abandoned by the County
Council Cabinet.
Work will continue on developing other options for an affordable
transport system for South East Hampshire, including Fareham, Gosport
and Portsmouth. These might include a guided bus system. In order to safeguard possible
future plans, the County Council proposes to buy the section
of former railway line between Fareham and Holbrook, to protect it
for future use as a public transport link.
