AWARD WINNING RECYCLING IN ANDOVER AND HEDGE END
Customers and staff from the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in Andover and Hedge End are celebrating an award for their first-class recycling performance.
The HWRCs are the first to be awarded the `Site of the Season' accolade by Hampshire County Council.
The County Council has a duty to provide places where residents can take their bulky household and garden waste, and with 24 HWRCs around the county, there is one within reasonable distance for most householders in Hampshire. Each site is provided by a designated contractor on the County Council's behalf.
The County Council recognises the important role these sites play, and as such is working hard to put more capital investment into improving the experience for customers. The Site of the Season competition was set up as a way of encouraging sites to further improve their services, and will be awarded four times a year to a site that has made a special effort and commitment to recycling and customer service.
Two HWRCs were chosen to win the inaugural award due to their outstanding recycling and customer care performance over the summer months, which is traditionally the busiest time of the year.
Andover was praised particularly for recent hard work at operating the site more efficiently to reduce queuing time, while Hedge End was commended for its consistently high recycling rate despite its small size.
Hampshire County Council's Executive Member for Environment (South), Councillor Tim Knight, said: "I congratulate Andover and Hedge End HWRCs on winning the award. They have shown a strong commitment to making their sites as easy as possible to use and are both equally deserving of the very first award."
Executive Member for Environment (North), Cllr Jonathan Glen, added: "Hampshire's HWRCs play an important role for the public, and I look forward to seeing how all 24 sites respond to try to make an even better experience for users."
The sites have been rewarded with two large certificates to promote their achievements, while the staff received a hamper.
