The 20 metre by 8 metre pool has graded depth from 0.7 m (21/3 feet) ideal for young children, down to 1.6 m (51/4 feet) enabling the more experienced swimmer to develop or train. Lanes are marked on the pool floor and can be supplemented by floating lines. There are two sets of changing facilities, so a school, club, private booking, etc., has private use of a separate changing facility from before to after their session, thus permitting use of the pool water for the full time booked. There is no public spectator admission but, at the discretion of the Pool Supervisor, friends or relations of swimmers may be permitted to view from a poolside window bay. For reasons of hygiene, outside shoes are prohibited in the pool area. A poolside lift permits disabled swimmers to enter and leave the pool readily.
Bus routes serving the Pool. City (First) Bus Nos. 6, 6A stop close by in Winchester Road. Solent Blue No. 1, stop in Bassett Avenue, about 500 yards from the pool. Unilink buses also stop in Bassett Avenue.
Swimming Crash Courses. Learn to swim in our 5-day Beginners and 5-day Improvers Crash Courses during School Holidays. Bookings taken up to the first day of the course. More details just before holiday week/s.
Life Saving Club. Life Saving and water safety in general and the functions of the regulatory body - The Royal Life Saving Society. Interested in joining the Life Saving Club ? Contact the Pool Office (023 8076 8209) for details. Opportunities for Lifeguards. If you are 16 or over and have an NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) then we can offer you the opportunity to do paid Poolside lifeguard duty, evenings or weekends according to time you have available. You would also need to be available for occasional staff training sessions. Contact the Pool Office for details.
