Scientific Service

What do we do?


  • Regulatory Services was formed by combining Registration, The Scientific Service, Trading Standards and Community Safety into an integrated new service.

  • Trading Standards deal with over 20,000 enquiries and complaints each year. We advise, help, protect and guide the people and businesses of Hampshire by working in partnership with Consumer Direct.

    We visit, inspect and test a vast range of products and services to ensure that legal standards of quantity, quality, price, description and safety are maintained.

  • The Registration Service registers births, marriages and deaths, and issues birth, marriage and death certificates. We conduct civil marriages, Civil Partnerships, Citizenship and other specialised ceremonies.

  • We can also provide scientific advice and analytical services from our accredited laboratory in Portsmouth. We offer scientific services to local authorities, businesses and members of the public and cover many areas of work.

  • The Accredited Community Safety Officer (ACSO) service was established in 2004 to tackle community safety issues, such as anti-social behaviour and nuisance.

    The service has clear links to Hampshire's priority of 'Safer and More Secure for All '. The officers are community driven and deal with everyday problems that affect residents' quality of life e.g. youth nuisance; mini-motor bike noise and under-age drinking.

  • Hampshire Trading Standards runs the Buy With Confidence approved trader scheme. The scheme was set up to help establish and maintain high standards of trading by businesses and tradesmen in Hampshire.
