Food Poisoning
Contact details | Facilities | Overview | Services
The Scientific Service has a well equipped microbiology facility and regularly analyses food samples for the presence of food poisoning bacteria.
This may represent routine quality control checks on food supplies to ensure that harmful bacteria are absent, or may involve special investigations following a food poisoning outbreak.
The laboratory tests foods for:-
- Salmonella - sometimes associated with meat, eggs, poultry,
- Listeria - sometimes associated with soft unpasteurised cheeses, pates
and other food poisoning bacteria such as Clostridia, Bacillus cereus, Campylobacter, Staphylococcus aureus and E-coli. Tests for total bacteria levels and yeasts and moulds can also be carried out.
Expert advice is also available on food hygiene. Our microbiologists and food technologists are experienced in carrying out hygiene and food quality audits in food factories.
CHARGES
