The Scientific Service has a team of specialist scientists and technologists who statutorily monitor and advise on the quality of foods in compliance with the regulations and standards. The laboratory analyses foods, drinks and ingredients for composition, quality, spoilage, additives and contaminants. Our services are wide ranging and include:
- Pesticide residue analysis
- Nutritional analysis
- fats including saturates, polyunsaturates, cholesterol
- carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals
- Compositional analysis
- meat content of meat products
- added water in beer, milk
- Examination of customer complaints
- foreign bodies, taints
- Trace contaminant analysis
- lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic
- lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic
- Chemical additives analysis
- colours, preservatives, antioxidants
- Materials and articles in contact with food
- plastics, plastic films, cans, foils, packages
- Food labelling checks
- nutritional labelling, misleading descriptions
CHARGES
Customer complaints free but must be submitted via Trading Standards or Environmental Health Departments.
Charges payable for scientific advice and analysis.

The public, local government departments particularly Trading Standards Service and Environmental Health Departments, County Caterers.
