Legionnaire's Disease

A proper programme of maintenance, water treatment and laboratory testing is the only way to prevent Legionella bacteria becoming established in water systems and creating the potential for outbreaks of Legionnaire's disease.

The Scientific Service can develop such programmes by inspecting sites, taking appropriate samples, conducting tests and offering advice after interpretation of results.

On-site testing and recommendations can be made where air conditioning systems are suspected of affecting staff health.
