Food Safety
Millions of tons of food year and the public are becoming increasingly aware and critical of additives, nutrition and quality of food.
Foodtest
Our Public Analysts and Food Scientists carry out an extensive range of tests for Trading Standards Departments to establish the nature, substance and quality of foods.
Foodcheck
Our Food Examiners and Microbiologists examine foods to ensure that they are fresh, hygienically produced and fit for human consumption.
Enforcement check
The investigation of food complaints is important in the enforcement of the Food Safety Act 1990. We can offer a professional analysis and investigation service to all enforcement authorities. To include full photographic documentation, environmental analysis, statement of witness and court appearance by expert witness.
Factory check
The skills of our ISO 9000 trained Food Technologist and Microbiologist are combined to provide a full range of factory inspection services including hygiene and process (HACCP) assessments.
Agritest
For farmers it is critical that the feed and medicines given to their livestock are of the right mixture to suit a particular crop. Our official Agricultural Analysts have the expertise to perform such analyses required by the relevant regulations.
Health and Safety
Whether at home, at work, or in the open air there is a need to ensure adequate health and safety standards.
Consumer Safety
The Service has long been established in investigating consumer goods such as cosmetics, household furniture and equipment which can be hazardous and provides a comprehensive advisory and testing service to monitor compliance with legislation.
Workplace Assessment
HSS offer consultancy and advice on how to create a safer and more comfortable working environment to ensure compliance with the legislation. Our team of qualified occupational hygienists have extensive experience in auditing, workplace monitoring for hazardous substances, assessment of Local Exhaust Ventillation (LEV) systems, asbestos management, noise surveys and offfice
Toytest
A special area of expertise is in toys (safety) testing to EN-71. Fully NAMAS accredited, we are able to check for compliance with the Toy Safety Regulations eg sharp spikes, detachable eyes, flammability and toxic substances.
Environmental
As concern increases over man's treatment of our planet there is a growing demand for more specialised and sophisticated analysis and advice. The Service has been committed over many decades to provide comprehensive monitoring and advice on all aspects of pollution, whether it is of land, sea or air.
Hydrocheck
From the investigation of taste complaints in drinking water to the isolation of pathogens such as Legionella and Salmonella in cooling towers and bathing waters, all types of water are tested for quality.
