Question iconYou can contact the Petroleum Officers about any matter which concerns you about the safe operation of any petrol station, or the storage of petrol at home or some business premises. The Petroleum Officers also have records of sites where petrol was previously stored in underground tanks. Searches for information on these premises can be made, though there is a charge for this service.

The Petroleum Officers can be contacted at Montgomery House, Monarch Way, Winchester. SO22 5PW Telephone 01962 833620 or email rsadvice@hants.gov.uk There is a 24-hour service on 01962 833622 but only for serious petroleum emergencies.

Question iconYour petrol licence conditions will give you full details. Briefly, you need to inform the Petroleum Officer of any fire, major spillage, or suspected leak at your site. You are also required to give adequate notice of any changes you are considering to your site, including the fitting new equipment on the forecourt, change of ownership or closure.

Diligent staff with an awareness of who is on the forecourt and what they are doing at all times is essential in ensuring the safe operation of any site. You may also want to consider upgrading your CCTV system and keeping logged evidence to assist the police in investigating any incidents.
