For Hire

The Hampshire County Council Weighbridge Testing Unit is designed for the calibration and testing of platform weighing machines and vehicle weighbridges. It may also be used for calibrating and testing other equipment where heavy weights of known accuracy are needed.

The Unit

The Unit is a 48 tonne vehicle comprising a six-axle articulated lorry, equipped with weights and a forklift truck. The unit is controlled by a skilled and fully trained operator. The weights comprise 22 x 1 tonne and 4 x 200 kilogram block weights, 100 kilogram composite weights, 2 kilogram and 1 kilogram Delta (tipping) weights and small weight set down to 1 gram.

Operation of the Unit

By use of the forklift truck, calibration may be achieved by 100 kilogram increments up to 23 tonnes. In the case of weighbridges using forklift and vehicle as ballast extends the calibration capacity to 48 tonnes. The block weights are also suitable, together with other loads, for checking the accuracy of rail weighbridges.

The operator of the Unit is trained and competent in all aspects of the use of the Unit. He will pay special attention to all Health and Safety requirements and his decision will be final on any issue concerning the safe operation of the Unit.

Accuracy of Calibration

All weights carried on the Unit are regularly calibrated by a UKAS approved laboratory and are fully traceable to National Standards.

Expertise in Testing

Some customers (particularity those from local authorities) may also be interested in hiring the unit together with the services of an expert Trading Standards Officer who can conduct the relevant testing of the equipment under test.

The Cost of Hire

To hire the unit from 1st September 2008 until 31st March 2009:

per 7 ½ hour day (plus VAT) £ 620.00
per additional hour (plus VAT) £ 85.00
per five day hire (plus VAT) £2600.00

The services of an expert Trading Standards Officer to accompany the Unit are charged at the rate of £64 per hour.
