The Link to Sustainable and Healthy Access Routes and Other Funding Opportunities
To help determine levels of current School Travel Plan (STP) activity in Hampshire and to assist in the determination of Planning Applications (where a STP is required) the County Council has devised assessment criteria for schools developing and implementing STPs. Schools who have reached Level Three with their School Travel Plan will be eligible to bid for funding from the County-wide Sustainable and Healthy Access Routes Programme (previously known as Safer Routes to Schools (SRtS)).
The Programme provides funding for measures
identified within plans that will make it safer and more desirable to
walk, cycle and use passenger transport on the journey to, and from, school. These
measures could include footways, cycleways, improved crossings, traffic
calming and help with initiatives such as walking buses. Follow this
link for examples of previous schemes.
Bids received from schools are prioritised using an assessment matrix. This will help determine how likely measures are to deliver real changes in travel choice and children's safety and will take into consideration a number of other factors including accident statistics.
If your school have a School Travel Plan and would like to bid for funding please contact the School Travel Planning Team.
