AGENDA 21 PANEL
30 OCTOBER 1996 ITEM 4
THE POTENTIAL EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN HAMPSHIRE
REPORT OF THE COUNTY PLANNING OFFICER
CONTACT: Peter Bell EXT: 6743
1. I attach a report which was considered by the Plan ning
and Transportation Committee at its meeting on 9
September 1996.
2. The report summarises from the point of view of
Planning and Transportation Committee, the potential
effect of climate change in Hampshire as set out in the
report published by the Department of the Environment
on 2 July 1996. The implications though stretch over
all the operations of the County Council and
accordingly the Committee resolved that the report be
forwarded to the Agenda 21 Panel for consideration.
The Chairman of the County Council has written to the
Secretary of State for the Environment welcoming the
significance the Government attaches to the subject of
climate change and encouraging the Secretary of State
to seek a corporate response from Government.
RECOMMENDATION
1. That the report be noted.
2. That the Panel consider the wider corporate
implications of predicted climate change at a future
meeting.
3. That relevant departments be reminded of the Count y
Council's corporate environmental objectives and be
requested to assess the implications of predicted
climate change for their service.
