The Review Plan and How to Use it
6. The policies put forward in this Plan will shape the pattern of development and the conservation of the environment in the period up to the year 2011 and beyond.
7. It proposes an overall strategy for development, for improving the environment, and managing the need to travel. It sets out how much new housing should be built and how proposals for economic growth should be considered. It puts forward policies for improving urban areas and town centres and for protecting and improving the environment and heritage.
8. It does not identify particular sites for development, although general areas of search are highlighted where the authorities believe that there are important, strategic reasons for doing so. Nor are the detailed boundaries of designated areas such as strategic gaps indicated. These details will be established in local plans prepared by the relevant district council.
9. The document is in four sections. The first outlines the background to the Review and the general principles that the authorities have followed when devising the Plan. The second sets out the detailed policies, topic by topic. The third section explains how the Review Plan will be put into effect; and the fourth section includes an index, references and glossary. There is a `Key Diagram' which shows in a broad and diagrammatic way where the main policies will have their greatest effect (See the index of pictures on the next page).
