Hampshire County Council is set to install a new overflow pipe in Littleton that will divert water away from local homes and roads along North Drive and Fyfield Way. Work is also planned to allow flood water to drain more quickly at the junction between Springvale Road and Down Farm Lane in Headbourne Worthy. This work is due to be completed by the end of the year.
Councillor Kirsty North, Hampshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Universal Services said: “We know that flooding can be devastating for people who are directly affected, and it can cause significant disruption, so I’m pleased we are starting work on the final phase of this flood prevention scheme in this area which has been badly impacted by flooding in the past when the ground has become saturated. With shifting weather patterns, including wetter winters, it’s important to do what we can to help create flood resilient communities. These improvements will help to protect homes and reduce the risk of flooding on local roads in future years.”
The first phase of flood mitigation measures in this area focussed on Kings Worthy and ensured existing water flow paths, including pipes, were cleared and replaced with larger pipes as well as the installation of some new pipes in other locations.
The installation of the overflow pipe will require temporary road closures from Monday 9 September, on North Drive and Fyfield Way in Littleton. A signed diversion route will be in place and access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Working hours will be between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. Some Saturday working may be required later in the construction period.
