The County Council’s Executive Member for Recreation and Heritage, Councillor Seán Woodward, formally welcomed customers through the doors on 6 June 2019.
Councillor Woodward said: “We wanted the refurbishment of Lockswood Library to reflect the changing needs of our customers. The installation of self-service kiosks not only enables people to quickly and easily borrow, renew and return items but also frees up skilled staff to help with more complex queries.
“Decoration and new carpets bring the interior up-to-date too, meaning more space for visitors of all ages to participate in a variety of learning, study and community activities in fresh and welcoming surroundings.
“It has been fantastic to hear customers’ positive thoughts on the changes we’ve made, and I’d encourage those who haven’t already visited to do so to take advantage of the range of free resources we have on offer.”
A summary of the improvements made:
- A brighter environment and better layout
- Self-service technology kiosks to quickly and easily borrow and return items
- New mobile shelving, which can be moved to accommodate children’s activities, events and learning
- New furniture – including soft seating areas and a community table for partners
