Stubbington Bypass works continue with the temporary closure of Bridge Street, Titchfield

As work continues on constructing a new bypass at Stubbington, Bridge Street in Titchfield will need to be closed for two weeks to allow essential drainage works to take place

Oct 13 2021

A temporary road closure will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week from Monday 18 October. Access to properties on Bridge Street will be maintained from South Street only.

Councillor Rob Humby, Deputy Leader of Hampshire County Council and Executive Lead Member for Economy, Transport and Environment, said: “I would like to apologise for any disruption this temporary road closure will cause but it is required so that essential work to upgrade the surface water drainage system can be carried out at the junction of Bridge Street and Titchfield Road. The work will involve deep excavations and the road closure will help ensure the work can be undertaken safely.  I would advise people to plan their journeys in advance and to factor in this closure which will help us stay on track to deliver this major transport scheme. Our operatives will do all they can to keep disruption to a minimum.

“We made a commitment to improve traffic and travel in South Hampshire. This project represents a key part of the County Council’s strategy to improve access into Gosport and Fareham, to reduce congestion and improve journey time reliability for road users. Improving the transport network will encourage investment and development into the area and help to provide new jobs for local people – the completion of this scheme, scheduled for Spring 2022, will support the economic recovery of the area, and the whole of Hampshire, as we move away from the worst of the coronavirus pandemic.”

Local signed diversions will be in place to divert traffic via the A27 Titchfield Gyratory/ Southampton Road/ St Margarets roundabout/ Warsash Road/ Common Lane/ Coach Hill/ South Street route in both directions.  Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained between South Street and Titchfield Road.
