Hampshire Trading Standards urges residents to use Buy with Confidence tradespeople for essential house repairs during Coronavirus pandemic

Hampshire County Council’s Trading Standards team is encouraging residents to only use approved tradespeople for essential house repairs during the Coronavirus pandemic

The County Council’s Executive Member for Recreation and Heritage, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: “We know that some residents will need to call on builders and tradespeople during the Coronavirus outbreak for unavoidable repairs such as a burst pipe or a blocked drain.

“At a time when rogue traders are looking to prey on people by targeting them on their doorstep and online, we are encouraging residents to use Buy with Confidence – a directory of approved and insured tradespeople. That way, residents know they will receive high quality work from a professional company.”

Hampshire’s Buy with Confidence scheme is part of a national register of Trading Standards approved businesses, run by local authorities. Founded in 1999, it has since registered nearly 1,000 businesses. Examples of services carried out by its members include: gas engineers, electricians, roofers and plumbers.

Councillor Woodward added: “In every emergency callout, we urge both the tradesperson and the resident to follow the Government’s social distancing guidelines.”
