Flying Start Hampshire is a central hub for a range of information and links to useful online sources of support, guidance and helpful resources for young people, including new material to support students through the current COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative has been supported by the Southern Universities Network (SUN).
Councillor Roz Chadd, Executive Member for Education and Skills at Hampshire County Council, said: “It is great that young people now have their own, dedicated website where they can find a wealth of valuable material that will help them to weigh up their options and make informed decisions about the next steps they want to take towards finding employment in a lifelong career. These decisions are not always easy to make, particularly during times of uncertainty like those we find ourselves in currently.”
Flying Start contains links to resources that will help when considering a course at sixth form, college, apprenticeship or future employment options, and helps young people explore their options and achieve success. Young people who may be feeling anxious either due to the pandemic or any other reason can find, on the website, a section dedicated to improving mental health and wellbeing.
Parents are also supported with a section of specific information and links to help them, as they support their family members.
Hampshire Futures is Hampshire County Council’s Service supporting young people aged 14 – 24 to make the right choice for them about their future through careers information, advice and guidance, traineeships and apprenticeship schemes.
