Hampshire County Council is asking the residents of Petersfield what they think of proposals to re-develop the site of the former older people’s home, Bulmer House, into modern, high specification accommodation for the over 55s from the local area.

The proposed scheme will comprise 56 affordable one and two bedroom flats, with care and support on site 24/7, and is being developed by housing provider, Housing 21, in close collaboration with East Hampshire District Council.

In addition to the apartments, the development will include facilities for the local community to use such as a bistro restaurant, coffee shop, as well as communal areas, lounges, activity rooms and landscape gardens. The design of the building will reflect the nature of the area, ensuring that the building fits into the local landscape. The architects have taken inspiration from existing buildings in Petersfield when proposing which materials to use for the design, with particular attention paid to its green credentials, and protection for the local environment.

Anyone interested in taking a tour around the online exhibition showcasing the development, and giving their views, can do so at bulmerhouse.consultationonline.co.uk. The consultation closes at midnight on Tuesday, 4 August.

Councillor Liz Fairhurst, Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health said: “Delivering affordable housing for older people is a key priority for the County Council and our proposed development in Petersfield is one of five new schemes currently underway. Extra Care provides a secure place to live with your own front door, but with the added reassurance of knowing that care is available around the clock should you need it. This promises to be a fantastic facility for older people in Petersfield and I urge local residents to take a few minutes let us know what they think of our plans.“

If planning permission is granted, it is expected that the Petersfield development would be completed in Winter 2022.
