Hampshire County Council-run nursery in Eastleigh retains outstanding rating for third time

The Aviary Nursery, on the Nightingale Primary School campus, is celebrating further confirmation of its ‘Outstanding’ OFSTED rating, after its first full inspection in seven years

Owned by Hampshire County Council, the Aviary caters for a range of children and is the special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) hub for the Eastleigh area.

The manager of The Aviary, Kathryn Ivil, said:

“The nursery is delighted that, for the third time, Ofsted has judged our practice and care to be ‘outstanding’. We are thrilled that our hard work and dedication to giving each child the best experience during their time at The Aviary has been acknowledged.

“We aim to provide opportunities for all, whether that is in our large outside areas including forest school, sand pits and mud kitchens, or inside with a story or a chat while making worms with playdough.”

The report states that ‘children are safe and happy, they blossom and show high levels of confidence, in the warm, caring and consistent approach from staff.’ It identified that ‘staff have an exceptional knowledge of how to keep children safe’ and that ‘managers and staff put children’s emotional well-being at the heart of everything they do.’

This rating is in line with the overall positive picture of early years education in Hampshire, with 95 per cent of settings inspected by Ofsted currently rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’.
