Hampshire County Council, in collaboration with schools across the county, is urging parents and carers to take up the thousands of places available through the government-funded Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) scheme so their children can enjoy healthy food and fun activities.

Hampshire County Council’s Executive Lead Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Edward Heron, said:

“If your children receive income-related free school meals in Hampshire, then I highly recommend you check out this fantastic free programme. The fun and enriching experiences they’ll enjoy as part of our HAF scheme – whether it’s learning to ride a bike, playing a new sport or taking part in cultural visits and activities – let them make the most of the school holidays without parents worrying about the cost. Each action-packed day includes a healthy lunch, so hard-pressed families know that their kids will be active and well-fed by our excellent providers.”

This is Hampshire’s third summer of delivering HAF, which is available to children from reception to year 11 who receive income-based free school meals during term time, with a small number of places also available for other vulnerable families – see eligibility information here: Hampshire Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) information

Individual programmes are run by a range of providers including schools, childcare organisations, community groups and sports clubs. Schools are helping to broaden the reach of the programme by sharing details of local schemes with eligible families.

Schemes are now open for bookings and HAF providers details can be found on Hampshire’s Family Information and Services Hub. Demand for places can be high in some areas, so parents are encouraged to check all local venues, and to add their names to waiting lists to take advantage of any cancellations.
