Have your say on improvement scheme for the High Street, West End

Hampshire County Council wants to find out more about the difficulties people may face when moving around the High Street in West End (between Chapel Road and West End Road), with the aim of considering improvements to make it easier for residents to make their way to the shops and other businesses in the area

An online survey has opened, closing on 22 October, so that residents, businesses and visitors can comment, having read the information pack first. Both the survey and information pack can be found on the County Council’s website – search for West End High Street Improvements.

In addition to the survey, the County Council is hosting a face-to-face information event on 27 September, at the Hilldene Centre in West End, where people can meet the team and provide their views. The event will take place between 1.30pm and 6pm.

 The feedback gathered through the survey will inform the development of an improvement scheme. Among the improvements being considered are:

-    Widening footways and providing more space for people;
-   Reducing street clutter and street furniture, such as railings and sign posts;
-   Enhancing crossing provision across the road, as well as providing priority for pedestrians at side roads.

As well as making the High Street more accessible for people walking and wheeling, the proposed changes further aim to make the High Street a more attractive area to spend time in for those who live, work and shop in West End.
