A recent survey of people in Hampshire revealed that over 90% were concerned about their future care and support. Predicting the needs of later life can be difficult however knowing what to think about such as costs of care and the practical support available to stay independent and living at home, is something that can help people to be on the front foot.
Councillor Liz Fairhurst, Hampshire County Council’s Lead Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health said: “Without a plan we can find ourselves having to make decisions under pressure in our later years, without the time or space to fully consider important issues such as care options, paying for care or how to stay independent for as long as possible. I would encourage anybody in middle age to start thinking about the practical steps that can be taken now to provide peace of mind later.”
Hampshire County Council is working with Age UK, Surrey County Council and other local authorities to host the free Planning for Your Future Event which takes place on Tuesday, 11 March at 7pm. Places can be booked online.
In addition to the online event, visit the planning for your future page on Connect to Support Hampshire for all the information needed to start planning for later life and to feel more prepared and confident about the future.
