Whether you are still active and well in your 60s and 70s, or just starting to feel a shift in how you feel, investing more in your health now can shape your later years

Hampshire County Council’s new Live Longer Better website is packed with useful ideas, resources, tips and information to help those in their 60s, 70s and beyond, to live life to the full and keep doing what they love. There are four key topics:

  • Be active
  • Stay steady
  • Hydration and continence
  • Keep connected

Councillor Liz Fairhurst, Hampshire County Council’s Cabinet Lead Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health said: “While we are seeing greater numbers of people living longer, many are living their older years in poor health. We want to help change this. Keeping moving is one of the most important things we can do to improve our own health and wellbeing, but less than half of Hampshire residents aged over 65 are active.  What’s great about the Live Longer Better website is that it highlights how making positive changes will give people the best opportunity for staying independent in later life.
“There are hints and tips about being active and staying steady on your feet, and information about topics that are less easy to talk about like continence and feeling lonely and isolated.  All these areas are hugely important as we age, knowing what positive changes can be made now is a great place to start living longer, healthier, happier lives. Even small changes can make a big difference.

“I would encourage everyone to look at the Live Longer Better website, as a way of helping yourself or a loved one stay healthy and well, both in mind and body, for as long as possible.”

Supporting Hampshire residents to live long lives in good health is at the heart of a range of actions that the County Council, as the Public Health Authority, will be taking with partners over the next three years to support local people to enjoy better health.
