Many have quit with the support of Smokefree Hampshire, a service offering free resources and personalised expert support to help people give up smoking. These services are customised to suit different needs and lifestyles, ranging from one-on-one counselling to group support sessions and nicotine replacement therapies.
Councillor Russell Oppenheimer, the County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “While the desire to quit smoking is common, it can feel overwhelming. By sharing success stories from locals who have quit, we hope to offer both inspiration and practical tips to those wanting to give up for good. You can find videos of local residents sharing their smoke-free stories on our website.”
Supporting people to quit smoking is part of the County Council's drive to tackle this health issue and move towards becoming a Smokefree County by 2030.
Anyone who wants to quit can self-refer to the free Smokefree Hampshire 12-week programme by calling the Quitline on 01264 563039, texting Quit to 66777, or visiting the website at www.smokefreehampshire.co.uk.
